It comes as no surprise that the author of the Defense Department's "terrorism
futures market" scheme was none other than John Poindexter, convicted perjurer
and Iran-Contra architect.

Adm. Poindexter's last brilliant idea was the creation of the Total Information
Awareness Office, a plan to open your every email and track your every purchase.

Nothing, it seems, can curb the Bush administration's twin obsessions of secret
surveillence and "running the country like a business." Still, can't they find
someone with a better reputation to do the job?
