Poindexter to resign - defense official.

Retired Admiral John Poindexter will resign in the next couple of weeks from 
his postion at the Pentagon overseeing a controversial program to gather 
information on terrorism, a senior US defense official said Thursday.

"He is kind of working through the details but expects to within a few weeks 
offer his resignation," the official said.

Poindexter, a former national security adviser who played a key role in the 
1980s Iran-Contra scandal, drew fire this week over a scheme to set up an 
online futures market in which traders would be on the likelihood of future 
terrorist action and assassinations in the Middle East.
