Newscast: John Poindexter, responsible for canceled futures trading market in terrorism resigns 31 July 2003 NBC News: Nightly News BRIAN WILLIAMS, anchor: Earlier this week, we reported on a Pentagon plan to start a futures trading market in terrorism. It was quickly canceled. Today a senior Pentagon official said the architect of that plan will resign. He is John Poindexter, a retired rear admiral, who first gained national notoriety in the Iran-Contra scandal. He was also responsible for an earlier Pentagon plan, also scrapped, that proposed a sweeping system of electronic spying on Americans to prevent terrorism attacks.
